Show Manila I Clara Robinson I Phone 784-3463 Boating accident near Manila Daggett County Sheriff Department officers were called to the Lucerne Valley Boat Ramp to assist with four injured people who were involved in a boat accident on Aug. 17. One woman suffered a broken ankle, a 5 vear old boy sutiered a cut to his head and two men were injured, one with a knee injury and the other a dislocated shoulder. The woman and small boy were taken to Salt Lake City by Life Flight and one man was taken to the Sweetwater Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs, Wyo., by Gene Ruble, USFS employee. The accident is being investigated in-vestigated by the Utah State Park and Recreation Division. The sanitary landfill will continue to be open Saturday and Monday forenoons each week. Because of carelessness in dumping garbage at the landfill on days when it was not open officially, a new padlock has been placed on the gate. Old keys will not work and littering is illegal. With two days open for hauling and a pickup on Monday, no one should need to have the landfill opened on other days. Mr. and Mrs. Norman W. Long attended at-tended the reunion of Mrs. Long's mother (the Lewis Swenson reunion) which was held August 9-10 at the Arvid Merkley Orchard in Dry Fork Canyon in Vernal. This reunion has been held every year since 1946. Visiting at the Ron Hamblin home last week were Ron's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Ogden of Murray, Utah. This week Mrs. Hamblin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Rice of Richfield, Utah are visiting. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 35 senior citizens enjoyed a chicken dinner at the Senior Citizen Center in Manila. There were three guests present Mr. and Mrs. Russ Krause and Mrs. Krouse's 97 year old mother. The Krauses were former neighbors of the Lee Colemans when they lived in Layton, Utah. Mr. Krause says now home is where their motor home is. At present it is at Brownie's Lake. Tuesday. Aug. 12. a conference was held for those on the Aging Board to set up a 3 year budget for the program. A chicken dinner was served at 12 noon. Lion Club members and guests enjoyed en-joyed a steak fry and picnic at the Red Canyon Forest Service Campground. The cloudy skies cleared and for those w ho arrived early it was very pleasant, but torrents of water caused some of the late comers to leave before eating. Bishop William M. Briggs announced that a new addition would be built on the west side of the Manila LDS Chapel. This w ill give much needed classrooms as well as other conveniences. Green River Wyoming Stake President Alan Harman says he expects this new addition to be in use one year from now. The plans and proposal has been presenled to the Priesthood members earlier .School w ill start in Daggett County on Tuesday, August 26. Registrations will beheld in Dutch John on Friday August 22 for students from that area attending Manila High School and for those attending at-tending from the Manila-McKinnon area, registration will be Monday at the Manila High School. The new principal Joe Richards, is already here and the hoard expects a full staff to start teachers orientation on August 19. Mrs. Beverly Miller, Manila Town Clerk, accompanied her daughter from Hawaii to California and is spending some time at her home in California. Mrs. Keith Larsen is acting clerk at present. A Primary program "A Prophet Speaks" which w ill be the closing of the year's Primary will be held August 31 at 6 p m This past week Manila received 1.17 inches of rain. Some places freezing temperatures were reported in the outlying area, but at the weather station, 44 has been the lowest. Some of the former McKinnon residents now living in Manila attended the Woodtick reunion held at the Pine Grove near McKinnon. Wyo., this weekend. A special guest at the reunion was Bill Duncan, former Sweetwater County Agent, who was McKinnon's first County Agent. He was also county agent for the Manila area which is on the Wyoming-Utah line. Mr. and Mrs. Craig Larsen of Orem, Utah visited at the homes of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Larsen and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Murphy this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Art Robinson and children of Rock Springs, Wyo., visited with Art's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson overnight Saturday. Wendi Christiansen, daughter of the lale Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Christiansen of Iigan, Utah, and Devon Norman Long, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman W. Long of Manila, wish to announce their forthcoming marriage on August 2!) The wedding will take place in the Logan LDS Temple.
