Teams from Salt Lake City, Orem, Moab, Fort Duchesne and Vernal took part in the ASA Class B Fast Pitch State Tournament in Vernal, Friday and Saturday. siriujslfcies..ta Fistfiry Female softballers from Orem and Vernal combined to deliver first place to International Environmental, which was also known as Central Bank and Trust, of Orem in the ASA Class B Fast Pitch State Tournament when they toppled Sofa Factory of Salt Lake City, 14 to 4, Saturday in the championship cham-pionship game. Two members of the lirst place team, Darian Abegglen and Kym Buckalew, are from Vernal. The Orem team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Kathy Thornton got on base due to a double and Cindy Bird singled to drive in Thornton with the first run. Bird scored the second Orem run on an error. Softballers on the Sofa Factory team were blanked in the first inning, but they scored one run in the second inning to cut Orem's team lead to 2 to 1. A fly ball went over the head of an Orem infielder and Barbara Timper gained a single. Timper advanced to second and third base and scored the Salt Lake City team's first run on a wild pitch. Both teams were shutout in the third inning, but five runs were produced in the fourth inning. Kym Buckalew advanced to first base on a walk and Karen Nielsen got on base due to a fielder's choice. Kay Thomas was walked to load up the bases. Vickie Fullmer gained a fielder's choice, which scored Buckalew and Thorton drove in Nielsen with a single to increase the Orem lead 4 to 1. Darian Abegglen reached first base on - a fielder's choice when Thomas was forced out at home plate. Bird stroked a .single, which knocked in Fullmer and Thornton and gave the Orem team a 6 to 1 advantage. The first two batters, Janie Myslinski and Sharon Seppi, grounded out, but Barbara Timper smashed a home run, which cut the Orem team's lead to 6 to 2 after four innings of action. The Orem team scored one run in the fifth inning, three in the sixth and four in the seventh inning to increase their advantage to 14 to 2. Thomas reached first base on a fielder's choice and was knocked in on a double by Thornton in the fifth inning. Bird reached first base on an error and scored on a triple by Kym Buckalew in the sixth inning. Nielsen smashed the softball for a triple, which drove in Buckalew and a single by Thomas enabled Nielsen to score a run. Vernal's Darian Abegglen led off the top of the seventh inning with a home run blast and Bird got on base due to an error. Belva Wood gained a single. An error placed Terri Daniels -on first base and scored Bird. Wood scored on Nielsen's sacrifice fly and Daniels was knocked in on a single by Thomas. The Sofa Factory scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the final score: International Environmental (Central Bank and Trust), 14 and Sofa Factory. 4. Western Company was defeated by the Orem team. 10 to 7. in the first round and the Roadrunners of Vernal were toppled by the Orem team, 9 to 3. in the second round. Theorem team jumped out to a 6 to 0 lead in the top of the second inning. Daniels belted a double and Thornton and Buckalew drilled singles. Western Company's Lisa Dimick agd Cherie Webb scored runs in the bottom of the second inning to cut Orem's lead to 6 to 2. Thornton and Nielsen scored runs in the third inning and Fullmer, Abegglen crossed home plate in the fourth inning togive the Orem team a 10 to 2 lead, but Western Company's Sharon Collier, Dimick and Webb scored counters in the fourth inning and Rita Allred and Collier scored runs in the fifth inning to make the final score 10 to 7 in favor of the Orem team. The Orem team had a 6-0 lead after four innings of action in a second round game against the Roadrunners. Diane Workman scored a run for the Roadrunners in the fourth inning and Sandy Atwood crossed home plate in the fifth inning to cut the Orem team's lead to 6 to 2. Nielsen blasted a homer in the top of the sixth inning and Buckalew and Wood scored runs and Workman crossed home plate for the Roadrunners Roadrun-ners to make the final score: Orem team, 9 and Roadrunners, 3. The Orem team also defeated Hey Loft, 10-3, .
