Dave Hardy, Brent Hales, guards; Lonnie Williams, tackle; Dave Emery, fullback and Rick Morton, wingback, are returning offensive starters. Morton was also a starter on defense as a cornerback. Players who saw some action in varsity games last season are: Roger Griffin, tackle; Scott Peterson, wide receiver; Mark Robb, running back; Ralph Warby, quarterback; Robert Karren, guard; Frank Atwood, guard; Robert Poole, center; Jeff Good, quarterback; Randy Smuin, running back; Rex Potter, linebacker; Lynn Reynolds, safety and David Palmer, linebacker. Practice in pads began Monday at Uintah High School. Two-a-day are being held from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 or 8 p.m., as the Utes run, h, sweat and groan in order to get ready for the season opener against Lehi in Vernal on Friday, August 29 at 7:30 p.m. "This is our best start since I've been here as far as enthusiasm and the number of players out. We have 73 players out for football so far. We have a lot of young players and we are rebuilding our offense and defense," stated Curg Belcher, Uintah High School head football coach. "Our quarterbacks are: senior, Ralph Warby; juniors, Jeff Good, Randy Smuin and sophomores, Pat Jenkins, Galen Turner. Our offensive coordinator coor-dinator is Monty Lee and Chuck Henry, Winslow Weber are assistant coaches." Belcher added, "Lehi lost three starters from last year. They advanced to the quarterfinals last season. They have a big team and have one of their best teams in years. Lehi is favored to win the 2-A class this year. They are a pretty good team, but we should beat them." A meeting was held in a room at Uintah High School, Monday, after the players had finished their running, blocking, hitting and throwing activities ac-tivities out on the field. Belcher remarked, "We are going to win and be tough. If you (the players) are not going to go to school then you don't belong here. We have a lot of offense back, but we are building our defense. We only have a few starters back on defense. Nobody has a spot sewed up." Monty Lee discussed basic formations for-mations and discussed setting up the huddle. "There is no talking in the huddle. It is quiet. You (the players) are going to run what the quarterback says unless there is a goof up. You don't walk to the line of scrimmage you run," stated Lee.
