Union thumps Manti tusslers The Union High School tussling team , opened the 1980-81 season with a 47 to 12 victory over Manti in Roosevelt on Nov. 25. The Cougars won the first four matches and grabbed a 24-0 lead. Union's Bardett Fausett, 98, won his match due to a forfeit and Jeff Samuels, 105; FarrelJ McCook, 112 and Stacey Hadlock, 119, won their matches with pins. Manti cut Union's lead to 24 to 3 when Byron- Larsen decisioned Mervin Glines, 10 to 5. Union increased its lead to 32-3 when Brent Cundall won the 132 pound contest, 12-0 and Brian Hamilton, 138, blanked his opponent, 6-0. 6-0. The Union crew won the 155 pound and heavyweight matched due to a pin by 155 pounder Brian Long and a 12-2 decision by Shannon Rhoades, heavyweight. Lorin Anderton, 145, was defeated 5 to 4 and Lynn Jarrett, 167, was pinned. Manti won the 185 pound contest due to a forfeit. |
