Show YM Manila 1 Clara Robinson . i Phone 784-3463 Manila Fire Department extinguishes fire Saturday noon the Manila Fire Department was called to extinguish a small brush fire which was burning just east of the Senior Citizen Center. The men were able to put it out in about 15 minutes after it had burned approximately ap-proximately one and one-half acres. There were no buildings in the area that was burned, but a trailer is on an adjacent ad-jacent lot. An investigation is being made concerning the origin of the fire. The Daggett Chamber of Commerce sponsored a turkey shoot at the rifle range on Saturday, Nov. 22. The following winners in the various events were: Levi Reed, Jr., Gary Pallesen, Shane Lazzell, Lynn Stoll, Bill Rogers, Floyd Gale, Bryan Tinker, Dixie Grubb and Shari Reed. The businesses donating turkeys were Reeds 66 Motor and Marine, Grubbs Construction and Motel, Scotts Trailer Court, Villa Cafe and Motel, 3-M 3-M Market, Flaming Gorge Merc, Lucerne Valley Marina and Dick and Pat Trayah. A half inch of snow had fallen Monday Mon-day morning ending the exceptionally warm weather of last week when the temperature rose to a high 66 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. Leona Sexton returned home the latter part of the week after spending Thanksgiving in Salt Lake City with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. . Bob Sexton. Mrs. Sexton said the weather was better by far in Manila as there was a foot of snow and it continued con-tinued cloudy and foggy while she was there. Glenn Ellsworth of Vernal spent Thanksgiving with his parents Mr. and Mrs. George Ellsworth. Mr. and Mrs. Art Robinson and children of Rock Springs, Wyo., visited at the home of Art's parents Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson on Thanksgiving day. Mrs. Sue Tinker and her daughter, and Twila Kesterson spent Thanksgiving in Farson at the home of Mrs. Tinker's sister. Mr. and Mrs. James Briggs and children spent Thanksgiving with Mrs. Brigg's mother, Mrs. Robert Gerber in Logan. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Cooper of Van Buren, Ark., spent the Thanksgiving holiday with Mrs. Cooper's parents Mr. and Mrs. Vance Grubb. For Thanksgiving they all attended a family reunion at the home of Mrs. Grubb's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sides in Casper, Wyo. Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Gaylen Jarvie and children were in Vernal for Thanksgiving at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Jarvie. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Robinson Sunday were Robinson's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Robinson of Roosevelt, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Robinson and children of Rock Springs, Wyo. Friday Manila boys lost the basketball game to Farson, Wyo. The junior varsity lost by one point. Last week it was reported school would be out at noon Wednesday for the Thanksgiving holiday. This was incorrect, in-correct, school was not out until Wednesday at the usual time. Manila Senior Citizens Thanksgiving dinner was held Wednesday noon last week. The Senior Citizen Center was decorated with pumpkins, pine cone turkeys and cornucopias of fruit. The largest pumpkin was used as a door prize and was won by Walter Anderson. The smaller pumpkins which were used as centerpieces at each of the tables were won by other senior citizens. The USB A (Utah School Board Association) will hold the 58th annual conference at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City on Dec. 2-3. All School superintendents and school board members are invited to attend. Although newly elected school board members Agnes Briggs and James Olson will not serve on the Daggett School Board until January, they have been invited to attend the conference. |
