Uintah's first Region Seven encounter will be against the Cyprus Pirates in Magna on April 8. The Utes' first home encounter will be against Judge Memorial on April 10. Uintah's Kevin Khoury is in this first year as the Utes' baseball coach. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1979 and from Judge Memorial in 1974. He played baseball and basketball at Judge Memorial, and was the first baseman on the University of Utah's baseball team. He batted .360 his junior year and .340 his senior year. "We should be strong and very tough defensively. We have two top flight pitchers in Brent Labrum and Rafe Johnston. Pitchers,' who should also see a lot of action are Burke Buckalew, Wayne Jenkins, Mike Johnson and Mike Reynolds. Some of our starters should be Brent Labrum, first; Rod Anderson, second; Burke Buckalew, shortstop; Rafe Johnston, third and Jeff Good or Marty McCarrel, catcher. The Utes had defensive problems at times in a number of games last season and Khoury remarked, "We have worked really hard with our outfielders. out-fielders. Other games on the Uintah baseball schedule are as follows: Uintah at Murray, April 14; Jordan at Uintah, April 18; Tooele at Uintah, April 22; Cyprus at Uintah, April 24; Uintah at Judge Memorial, April 29; Murray at Uintah, May 2; Uintah at Jordan, May 5; and Uintah at Tooele, May 7. The state tournament is set for May 12-17.
