CARL MATTHES, PIANIST, teacher, choral conductor and composer-arranger, will perform Wednesday, March 26, at the Vernal Junior High School Auditorium. Curtain time is at 8:15 p.m. Community Concert members to hear pianist, Carl Matthes Carl Matthes, pianist, will be presented to the members of the Uintah Community Concert ' Association at a concert in the Vemal Junior High School Auditorium on Wednesday, March 26, according to Curtis May, association president. Curtain time is 8:15 p.m. A native of Los Angeles, Mr. Matthes was graduated at twenty years of age from the California Institute of the Arts where he received his Bachelor of Music Degree, Summa Cum Laude. His first serious studies were with Earle Voorhies, and then with Lillian Steuber of the University of Southern California. As a result of winning first place in special auditions, he received a scholarsliip to participate in the master classes given by the renowned Bach performer, Roslyn Turect, in addition to performing in those given by Madame Rosina Lhevine of the Juilliard School of Music at the University of California at Berkley. Following a period of study in Europe, Mr. Matthes gave his successful suc-cessful European debut in Wigmore Hall, London. This was followed by his participation in the International Music Festivals of Barcelona, Spain; Montreal, Mon-treal, Canada, and Bolzano, Italy. He was featured soloist at a Carnegie Hall "Salute to the United Nations" where, by invitation, dignitaries from all over the world filled the hall. Other appearances have been in the Hollywood Bowl, The Seattle Center Coliseum, Royce Hall on the UCLA campus, the Lord Clive House in London, Baylor University and Occidental Oc-cidental College. Mr. Matthes resides in Los Angeles where he teaches privately and is active as a choral conductor and composer-arranger. Admittance to the concert is by membership card only. Members are reminded that they may bring out of town guests with them. Children and students are required to sit with their parents. Everyone is encouraged to be in their seats before curtain time. |
