Unbeaten Elevens Clash In Feature Struggle of Big Seven Weekly Slate ' - By JOHN MOONEY Take it from Coach Ike Armstrong, the University of Utah football team isn't expecting any picnic Saturday when, it meets - the undefeated and untied Cougars of B. Y. U. at Provo in the econd conference game of the season for both teams. Armstrong sent his grldders through a lengthy session Monday against the reserves, but held the scrimmage work to a minimum, with most of the work consisting of pass defense and punting. Vadal Peterson, recalled temporarily tempo-rarily to his scouting duties, watched the Cougars in their 13-13 , victory over Colorado Aggies and has formed some very definite opinions of the B. Y. U. eleven. Attack Stronger "Their strong side attack Is every bit as powerful as it was last year, said Peterson, "and their weak side attack Is much stronger. In Lloyd Brink the Cougars Cou-gars have a ball carrier who can start fast andLlhen cut backuover the weak side. I should say that B. Y. U. has a much more versatile versa-tile attack than last year and ahould provide plenty of entertainment enter-tainment for our boys." Although Monday's session was a little In the nature of a limbering limber-ing up drill for the Utes after Saturday's 60-0 rout of Wyoming, Armstrong Indicated that Tuesday and Wednesday would see plenty of action for his men. Milt Merham, assisted by Peterson, was drilling freshman elevens Monday and Is expected to have them ready to show the B. Y. U. plays to the vanity Tuesday. The Cougars' celebrated razzle-dazzle razzle-dazzle tactics failed to materialize Saturday, but Coach Eddie Kimball Kim-ball explained this by saying that the straight plays were working so well that there was no need for wide open football. Thus far this season, according to Kimball, the Cougars' opponents have been concentrating con-centrating on a defense for the B. Y. U. razzle-dazzle attack, with the result that they forget the straight football plays. ' For the Utes Saturday's game will provide a chance to erase the 7-7 tie which, the Cougars held them to last year, and also a CAaAOO&0 aiaOW-litO- Big &OVOftOM- ference that Utah Is on the way to another football title. Although the Utes boast a 7-7 tie with Santa Clara and a (0-0 victory vic-tory over Wyoming. Saturday's contest Is expected to act as a more accurate yardstick on Utah's possibilities possi-bilities for conference and national football honors. Although B. Y. U. depends largely large-ly on a team of newcomers, it has been playing bang-up ball In Its two games this season, defeating Arizona State at Flagstaff 25-0 and Colorado Aggies 13-12. ! |
