Trueman, subpenaed to produce reeords for the taxpayers' suit against Pioneer Days, Inc. The trial started at 10 a. m. It Is alleged that revenue derived de-rived from the city-conducted celebration cele-bration In 1934 and 1933 was Illegally Ille-gally turned over to the private corporation In lftM and that Income In-come from leasing the city square to carnivals also was Illegally diverted. di-verted. Named as defendants are Mayor H. W. Peery. president of Pioneer Days, Inc: Oty Attorney George S. Barker, W. C Stewart and former for-mer City Commissioner George O'Connor, directors: City Commissioner Commis-sioner E. T. Saunders, former director, di-rector, and City Commissioner William J. Rackham. Barker argued that the money turned over to Pioneer Days, Inc., had never belonged to the city, but had been set up for a civic celebration cele-bration and that It was proper to use those funds for a civic celebration. |
