Show UTAH CONTRACT ON FOOD STAMP PLAN APPROVED U. S. and State Boards Reach Agreement on Program A contract with the U. S. surplus commodities corporation and the Salt Lake county welfare board for operation of the food stamp plan was approved Tuesday by the tat public welfare board, subject to final approval by Governor Henry H. Blood, who Is out of the state. Meanwhile, retailers elected committees 'to put the plan into effect ere. They Include: Executive Execu-tive committee F. J. Lucas, George Zeese and H. S. Tucker. Advisory Ad-visory committee G. Bradley Williams. Wil-liams. Donald P. Lloyd, Fred Dur-kec Dur-kec and Stewart Jtomnejji Representatives of the Wholesale Whole-sale Grocers' Association of Salt Lake County Tuesday afternoon Indorsed the government's surplus food stamp plan by agreeing to accept the stamps in payment ot bills from retailers, and said government gov-ernment information regarding the plan would be passed through regular regu-lar wholesale outlets to retailers. The announcement followed a meeting at the Newhouse hotel of wholesalers' representatives, C B. Hodges. Salt Lake City administrator' administra-tor' ot the food' stamp plan, and Mr. Hodges' assistant. A. F. Cooper. The plan provides that relief clients cli-ents may buy stamps good for purchase of food and receive extra stamps free for purchase of additional addi-tional surplus commodities. ' At Chicago, Milo Perkins, president presi-dent of the U. S. surplus commodities commodi-ties corporation, told the National Association of Food Chains that the food stamp plan should be extended. ex-tended. He said results in several cities warranted extension of the plan, according to the Associated Press. The state board approved appointment ap-pointment of Mrs. Arthur J. Murphy Mur-phy aa a member of the Salt Lake board, succeeding Harold O. Fife, resigned. It also approved surgery for four needy blind cases, in accordance ac-cordance with powers given by the 1939 legislature. |
