Show Your Baby Teach Child " Yelling' Does No Good By MYRTIX MEYER ELDRED Our free leaflet. "Early Discipline," Disci-pline," Is designed to help a mother get through this trying period of a child's life. It may be had by sending a three-cent stamped, self-addressed envelope with your request to Mrs. Eldred of the your baby and mine department de-partment in care of the Salt Lake Telegram. Some children seem, by nature, to be unable to withstand the continual difficulties of life without with-out yelling about them. A fall, a bump, an obstreperous toy, a departing de-parting mama are enough to causa them to turn on the tear ducts. All one can suggest, for such children chil-dren if all is well with them, is that they be allowed to discover that crying Is futile and then they will gradually outgrow its use as an attention-grabbing device. Mrs. D. E. M. admits she is puzzled puz-zled as to what to do about the persistent per-sistent crying of her three-year-old daughter. "For two months I have tried to do as you suggested, put her in a room alone when she cries, 8utso far this has not prove? successful. Incidentally, she is in perfect health, so that cause of her behavior can be eliminated." I'm sorry to have given the impression im-pression that Isolation will cure a cry baby. Isolation is a simple, consistent kind of penalty children may suffer when they act in undesirable un-desirable ways. But crying is a sign and a symptom and it should not be persistently ignored. One must guess, with so little to go upon, that yours is a typical three-year-old with a genius for getting Into trouble and you a typical mama who spends a large share of your time telling Miss Mischief what and what not to do. As it is easier to evaluate behaviorboth be-haviorboth yours and hers in the calmness w?PcTi results when daughter is asleep, try writing down what she does and what you do during the day. See her behavior, artd your reactions, reac-tions, not emotionally but objectively. |
