Show 1 15 DIE AS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SWELTERS UNDER BLAZING HEAT LOS ANGELES, Sept. 20 (UP) Fifteen pcrsoni were dead, hundredi proitrt'e, thousands slept in the open all night, and steaming rain, lightning and forest and brush fires swept southern south-ern California today in the sixth day of its record-breaking heat wave. Dawn came to Los Angeles with a temperature approaching 85 degree. de-gree. At 7:30 a. m. It was BO. At a. m. the official weather bureau recording was 94 degrees. At 8:30 a. m. It had reached 06 and was mounting rapidly. At 9 a. m. the mercury shot up to 98 and at 9:25 a. m. crossed the 100 mark. Street temperatures tempera-tures averaged from 108 to 115 degrees. Yesterday, with a maximum of 104.2 degrees, climaxed the worst September heat wave in 58 years. The normal average for September Is 80.4. L. H.
