Show BLOOD TO CALL NEW SESSION OF -HOSPITAL-BOARD Committee to Certify Selected Site for Sanitarium Another meeting of the committee commit-tee that selected the Ogden site for the proposed state tuberculosis sanitarium loomed as a virtual certainty cer-tainty Thursday as the attorney general's office ruled,'' Informally and verbally, that Governor Henry H. Blood was obligated to call a meeting. In indicating that he would take such action. Governor Blood said. however, tha aetlen wuld not necessarily be taken reversing the committee's selection of the Ogden she. In a conference called by the governor, Deputy Attorney General John D. Rice held that not only was the governor empowered to call a meeting of the committee, but that such a meeting was mandatory man-datory so the committee might certify cer-tify to the secretary of state selection selec-tion of the site and receive title to the land In question. Opinion Requested The conference was held when the governor formally requested an opinion on whether he was empowered, empow-ered, as ex officio chairman of the committee, to call a meeting. To continue formality of the procedure. It was agreed that the governor and the deputy attorney general would exchange letters concerning the governor's responsibility In the matter of further meetings. Attorney General Joseph Ches on Wednesday Informally expressed the opinion that the site committee commit-tee could not go out of existence until it had "acquired" a site. Previously Pre-viously the committee was considered consid-ered as having been dissolved after selection of the site. Governor Blood said he had no idea when the meeting would be called and that It would not necessarily neces-sarily be for the purpose of reversing revers-ing the action in selection of the Op-den site. Meanwhile, the Utah Taxpayers' association and the Salt Lake Real Estate board had entered the dispute dis-pute over selection of the site. Reconsideration Asked The association had forwarded to C B. Hawley of Salt Lake City, member of the committee, a communication com-munication that urged the committee commit-tee to reconsider its action, with a view to hooking up with some existing ex-isting institution for the economies that would ensue through joint use of facilities. The Salt Lake General hospital grounds have been put forth as such a site, although the association did not specifically urge acceptance of that offer. The real estate board asked that the sanitarium be located with "consideration "con-sideration of the appropriation available, the taxes upon the people and the facilities available." i |
