Show STREETLIGHTS TO BE IMPROVED The campaign to Improve lighting light-ing facilities on the west side of the city received Impetus Thursday when public, officials flayed Inadequate Inade-quate street lighting systems in the area, and Police Inspector O. B. Record mapped a program of lighting light-ing arterial highways. Better lighting facilities of vart-ous vart-ous kinds are being sought In the Interest of safety. Added to the mass or complaints from home owners regarding "light-1 ing up" the west side section were those of Mayor E. B. Erwin, City Commissioners John B. Matheson and P. H. Goggin, Cus P. Backman, secretary of the chamber of commerce; com-merce; Inspector Record, Police Judge Reva Beck Bosone and J. Eastman Hatch, chairman of the chamber of commerce safety committee. com-mittee. All pleaded for action In providing provid-ing better lighting facilities in Salt Lake City and for Installation of semaphores at intervals along North Temple street. Meanwhile, E. C. Knowlton. chief engineer of the state road commission, commis-sion, pointed out that the state had ; never paid for the Installation of lighting systems on highways within with-in city limits and added he was not j prepared to say whether it would be legal to use state funds for lights within city limits. |
