OCR Text CALIENTE DEPUTY IS KILLED BY A JAP Deputy Sheriff J. J. Monohan of Cal-iente Cal-iente was shot and killed Tuesday night by an unknown Jap. A party of twenty Japa who have been employed on the railroad grade west of Callente started East Tuesday. Just before be-fore the train reached Callente the Japs became- boisterous.. When the train stopped at Callente the Japs left the car and started to terrorise the place. The peace officers were called on to quell the riot. In the fight Monohan received a bullet from the effects of which he died a short time later. After a hard fight in which a number of the officers and Japs were wounded all of the latter were arrested and placed In Jail with the exception of one named Fugatl. who, It is believed, fired the shot which killed Monohan.
