Show RUNAWAY CAR KILLS ENGINEER Peculiar Accident on a Road in Vermont; the Passengers Are; Severely Shaken Up. -: i ' 1 RUTLAND. Vt. June 21. A ' peculiar pe-culiar accident on the Rutland railroad, rail-road, a short distance from this city yesterday, resulted in the death of Harry N. Davis, the engineer) and the severe shaking up of the passengers on an express train. The train was the express which left this city at 2 p. m. for Boston. At a point about seven miles south of Rutland Rut-land the railroad ascends a mountain, the grade being one of the heaviest in Vermont. While the express was climbing this grade Engineer Davis suddenly saw a single freight car coming down the hill on the same track. He tried to bring his train to a standstill, but before be-fore this could be done the car had crashed into the locomotive. Davis was fatally hurt. |
