Show BUTCHERS AND GROCERS GIVE A GREAT OUTING More than 7000 people attended the barbecue given at Sat lair yesterday by the Salt Lake butchers and grocers. The crowd was more than well pleased, and the programme was rendered ren-dered as per schedule without a hitch. The main event, of course,' was the barbecue. The meat was cooked In town the night before and reheated in large tanks at the lake yesterday before be-fore serving. There was a great demand for the "eatings. " Roast " beef, bread and pickles were served. There were tar ken out to the barbecue 8000 loaves of bread, three barrels of pickles and 6500 pounds of fine beef. The serving serv-ing began at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. after-noon. At 6 o'clock the bread was all out. and by 7 o'clock the meat also had vanished. A large number of people were served after the bread had given out, but it is estimated that over 13,000 sandwiches were served. ' The butchers and grocers are deserving de-serving of praise for the manner in which they handled the large crowd. There were no complaints Xrom .the hungry , throng, and all went home satisfied. The general committee, having charge, was composed of J. m. Marriott, J. A. Eckmilh and William Wood, Jr. Those who served at the stand where the meat and bread were served were H. A. Milan, C. Lees, D. Heeps. Will Boudege. R. V. Hunt, S. S. Dickinson. E. Brooks, A." Olsen. W. Murdock. A. Hudson, F. H. Weight and J. A. Folger. Besides the barbecue the general run of sports and amusements to be enjoyed at Saltalr were taken up all during the day. The shows were all well attended, and many bathers "took the waters." Dancing was the feature of the evening. The train ser--vice was good all day long, and in the evening it was necessary to get. extra coaches from the San Pedro, Los Angeles An-geles & Salt Lake line to accommodate the crowds. The field events were called off because be-cause of the water which now surrounds sur-rounds the pavilion. The ball game between the butchers and the grocers was also declared off. . |
