Show SALT LAKE ROAD OILING ROADBED Expensive System of Laying Lay-ing the Dust is Adopted Adopt-ed by tjicRailway. The Salt Lake Route is making an im-nrovement im-nrovement vron its roadbed, which will be appreciated by the entire traveling-public traveling-public and should annex a large portion por-tion of the traveling public's patronage. Orders have been given and a beginning begin-ning made for the oiling of the roadbed road-bed from Los Angeles clear to Salt Lake. Already some 200 miles of the bed has been oiled beginning at Las Vegas. Nev., and extending toward Los Angeles. A special tank car has been ' 1 built for the purpose and the oil Is J spread evenly for a distance of three T or more feet on both sides of the rails. f The sprinkling arrangement is simi- ' lar to the oiling carts used In oiling California streets and roads and the . operator can control the flow at pleasure. Many miles of road can be . oiled in a day, and the officials say that as soon as the holiday traffic re- cedes sufficiently, the work of extend-Sf extend-Sf tag the oiled surface to Salt Lake will be taken up. It Is expected that this will be completed In the early part of 1806. Passengers who make the trip over the great desert notice the .change to the oiled portion of the road before more than a few miles have been traversed. t i The entire absence of dust Is a pleasant V change. |
