WANT UNCLE SAMUEL TO PAY FOR STREET. For several months Salt Lake City has had its eye on Uncle Sam's pocket-book pocket-book and has been figuring on how to "touch" the Yankee and make him give up .$1935 to pay his nhare of the improvements im-provements in Market street In front of the new Federal building. In a communication to the Council some time ago. Postmaster Thomas asserted as-serted that the Government could not be compelled to pay the tax and that it would be voluntary if paid. The matter was referred to the Committee Com-mittee on Streets, which reported to the Council last, night.
