The Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing day programme for this city is poss'-bly poss'-bly more extended than ever before. An unusually large number of religious meetings meet-ings will be held. There will be numerous numer-ous dinners where the poor may eat their All of turkey and mince pie. The lovers of athletic sports will have an opportunity opportu-nity to witness football games, cross country running and various other contests. con-tests. The weather prophecy is for a fair day. but decidedly colder. One of the largest meetings of the day will be at Carnegie hall this afternoon, when there will be a celebration of the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the settling of the Jews in the United States. Among the many speakers will be Former President Grover Cleveland. Gov. Hlgglns and Bishop Coadjutor Greer. No Reason to Hunger. There is no reason why any one should go hungry today. The Salvation Army will give its usual dinners at many places. The sailor men have not been forgotten, for the Seamen's Christian association has made preparations to serve out rations to 400 "salts." Even the latest arrivals In the United States will taste of America's Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing day hospitality, for a big dinner will he served at the United States Immigration Immigra-tion station at Ellis island. The usual turkey dinners will be given to the newsboys at 7 o'clock tonight. To Dine the Prisoners. At the' Ludlow street Jell Sheriff Er-langer Er-langer will entertain the prisoners at the second Thanksgiving day dinner given by him. Four thousand persons in this city will receive their dinners today from the Episcopal City Mission society. Five hundred hun-dred bags, each containing a turkey and the conventional accompaniments, were sent out yesterday. The Ragamuffin parade of the children today will be greater and more varied than ever before. |
