Show Atomic Bomb Fear No Church Help Hints "of doom, more consistently consistent-ly than anything else, have sent people hustling off to their temples for solace and guidance. When man worshipped the sun an eclipse was enough to do it. In the years marked A.D. predictions of a Second Sec-ond Coming have had the same effect. But the Doomsday rattlings of atomic warfare seem to have left many a person cold sometimes with fear, too often with indifference, indif-ference, says Pathfinder magazine. Just 150 miles from the testing grounds where the A-bomb was blast-born two years ago, the clergymen of Albuquerque, N. M., were asked if atomic jitters had brought in new church members. Last week their unanimous answer "No. Not a- one!" The challenge of The Bomb seemed to be.outracing the teachings teach-ings of The Book. How to bring the churches to the people if the people wouldn't go to the churches was a major problem for 1948. |
