Hilgendorff, at the concert con-cert on Wednesday evening of last week. Mr. Hilgendorff said it was the first time he had known of a city sponsoring its own civic orchestra; that in many cases it had sponsored spon-sored a city band but not an orchestra, or-chestra, and he praised the movement move-ment highly. - As approximately 1000 people left the concert following the 'initial 'init-ial public appearance of the group, many fine comments were heard concerning the outstanding rendition. rendi-tion. A majority were surprised that such a fine program could be presented by local musicians. An interesting and varied enter- V 7-T tainment held the attention of all throughout the everting. Jrligh-lighting Jrligh-lighting the performance were two young talented soloists, David Latimer and Douglas Childs. Each displayed outstanding skill on his solo instrument. John G. Hilgendorff Hilgen-dorff proved his superior ability as a conductor by the splendid results re-sults he obtained in the short time the orchestra has been organized. There were 54 members in the orchestra, with practically all of the instruments of a large symphony sym-phony represented. An interesting addition were the bells furnished by Mrs. Cleo Pierce Heavener, which were used in three selections. selec-tions. The attractive floral setting set-ting and formal attire of orchestra members added an artistic touch to the entertainment. That the citizens are enthusiastic enthusias-tic and surprised at the work of the music group, is evidenced from i the comments made at the close of the program, some of which are as follows : W. W. Brockbank : "I was happily hap-pily surprised and thoroughly enjoyed en-joyed the concert. It is one of the finest cultural enterprises to ever come to Springville. The members should be complimented on their fine organization." Mrs. H. T. Reynolds, Jr.: "It was a surprising success. I enjoyed en-joyed it very much." Merle Sargent: "The concert was excellent. The results were surprising, considering the time they have been together and the handicaps they have had to overcome. over-come. Anderson) : "It was a gratifying and pleasant experience. I was thrilled. Your organization has all the possibilities of a fine symphony orchestra."
