It's almost a meal in itself and needs only a green salad, hot biscuits, apple sauce, cookies and milk to complete it. NOODLES AND STEAK ROLL 1. Flatten to inch thickness.-.. lb. chnck, rump, or flank steak cat inch thick 2. Spread with 2 tb. fat t- thyme yz U leaf sage V4. t. basil 8. Roll as for a jelly roll and tie with a string. 4. Brown in i c lalad oil 5. Add -.Zys c. chopped fresh or canned tomatoes c canned tomato paste y2 lb. sliced santeed mushrooms 1 c. water 1 c. minced onions ty2 U salt 34 t- pepper 1 peeled clore of rarlie 6. Simmer for t hours or until sauce is thick. 7. Remove garlic 8. Cook and drain 12 ox. wide egg Noodles 9. Toss In - 4 c minced parsley 10. Arrange noodles In center of platter. 11. Pour sauce around noodles. 12. Slice steak and arrange on top of noodles. HOT BISCUITS Temp. 450 Time: 10-12 minutes 1. Sift together 2 c. flour 4 t. baking powder t. salt 2. Chop in with pastry blender or 2 knives until fat Is size of rice kernela. 4 tb. lard 3. Hake a well in the center of the dry ingredients; add gradually, stirring until a smooth soft dough -, is formed c. milk c. water 4. Knead lightly for 25-30 times. 5. Pat or roll to within inch thickness. 'Brush with canned milk or butter. 6. Cut with floured cutter. 7. Place a part on biscuit sheet. Bake. BUTTERSCOTCH ICE BOX COOKIES Temp. 875 Time: 8-10 minutes 1. f'r-pnm , y c batter 2. Mix , i c. brown sugar 3. Add- 1 beaten egg y U vanilla 4. Sift together and add gradually ...1 c floor t. salt 3 t. baking powder 5. Add yz c. walnuts or pecans 6. Shape Into rolls, wrap in waxed paper and place in refrigerator for several hours. Slice and bake. NOTE: These cookies will keep indefinitely in the refrigerator and may be sliced and baked as needed. |
