New York designers have created playclothes, spectator dresses and dance dresses that are extra appealing ap-pealing in a feminine way, with "little tops," full skirts and petticoats petti-coats to accentuate small, shaped waists. But many active sports clothes strike a different note. The neat, Btraight-cut, little boy look is popular, popu-lar, appearing in tennis dresses at the new knee-length or just above, and In short coats over bathing suits. , The 1948 fashion scene will also launch a diversity of that most practical Idea: the two-in-one or three-in-one combination. Bathing suits add long, full skirts to make another costume. Often there i3 a shawl or short jacket accompanying accompany-ing a playdress or bathing suit to give the covered-up look. Examples are the cardigan shown above, which teams equally well with many costumes, and the wide-striped beach coat which won't be seen only on the sand. White is tops this year in sun fashions. The season's new colors will, however, be eye-catching runners-up, as becoming and flattering flat-tering to suntans as white. There are clear, deepwater blues and sea greens, along with sandy golds and soft lavenders, bright pumpkin colors and soft mauves. |
