Show National Guard Unit Plans Completed Meeting Scheduled Tuesday, January 20, At Which Plans Will Be Outlined For Drive To Secure Quota Of Unit Recruits The Springville National Guard committee received the green light sign this week from General Wallace West, in charge of National Guard organization in the state, to te- gin immediately on establishment of a National Guard unit here. While certain details have been pending since the project was started some months ago, it will be only a short time now until the unit will be ready for training, according to J. Y. Bearnson, chairman chair-man of the committee, who was contacted by General Wallace West. Others who have worked with Chairman Bearnson are Dave Friel and Maurice Anderson. Formal induction papers officially official-ly designating Max Alleman as captain of the Springville unit were also received this week, to complete preliminary details for the unit organization. Within the next few days a campaign cam-paign will get underway to secure recruits for the unit, with a meet- . ing called by the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce for next Tuesday, January 20, at Memorial hall, of all civic club representatives appointed to work on the project. Each club has a list of between 20 and 30 names, which are to be contacted in the recruit drive, according to J. A. Miller, chamber secretary. Details of the drive, including instructions in-structions on how it will be carried car-ried on, will be made at the Tuesday Tues-day evening meeting. Young men of the community are being asked by committee members to investigate the Nation- al Guard plant to determine its possibilities and opportunities. To be constructed on property already purchased by the city, the garage is to be 100 by 52 feet, of brick construction. Bids for the building are to be let in the very near future, and anyone interested in the work may secure plans and specifications from the state building board, Salt Lake City, it is announced. 1 |
