Show TRUE PROPHECIES Judging from the number of happenings every day, none of us know what tomorrow or the day after will bring. But it is interesting to note at this particular time of the year the many predictions made by political, industrial or less important im-portant individuals, on what is going to take place. So for the amusement, rather than to inform our readers, we give a tew of these prophecies gathered here and there. While three-fourths of the young people will be working work-ing and studying in serious effort to make successes of their lives, old folks will be grumbling about the wild generation wondering what this world is coming to. You will be asked and will respond liberally or otherwise, other-wise, to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, polio drive, cancer drive, tuberculosis drive, for the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts and to other community projects and charitable causes. You may send gifts abroad and .support U. S. official aid to Europe. Women's styles will change. Men will make fun of the changes and continue to admire the women who wear them. A substantial number of men and women will give their time and energy to make their communities better and others will criticize what they do. Office holders, large and small, will also be criticized. No cure for the common cold will be found, but some scientist will get closer to it than anyone has yet. Weddings and babies will continue to be popular. Church and Sunday School will be held at the usual-hour usual-hour and it would be a good thing if more people attended. July will be warmer than February. More people will begin to suspect that their prosperity is partly illusion and they will want to do something about it. Russia will denounce America's selfish imperialism II i American People for the 41st time in their history will elect a President and a Vice-President. A fervant cam- paign will precede election. Candidates and supporters will heatedly debate issues and personalities. Then on November Novem-ber 2, about three-fifths of the citizens of voting age will proceed to their neighborhood polls and most of them will vote about as they had all along intended to vote. They will vote according to their judgment and conscience, without with-out compulsion, violence or bloodshed. Some good American Ameri-can will be elected. More people will have jobs than ever before. They wi worry more than ever before about what their money will buy. Everyone by spring will be talking about the great meat shortage and there will be one, but more people will have meat on their tables than will have to do without. Meanwhile Mean-while more pigs, calves. Iambs and chicks will be growing as last as they can into more meat. Tne baseball season will open around the middle of April and some people will pay more attention to the con- tending teams than to the contending political parties. , Everyone who reads the papers will shudder at the ruinous catastrophes constantly being foreshadowed. Some ot the predicted catastrophies will not happen; those that do I wi not be as bad as expected. Some that no one foresaw I will be worse. , |
