Owing to the lateness of arrival of United .States Senator Hiram Johnson in Salt Lake next Saturday, the banquet ban-quet to have been given in his honor at the Hotel Utah has been canceled. This announcement was made yesterday by Henry Welsh, chairman of the Republican Republi-can state committee, and .Nicholas u. Morgan, president of the Young Men s Republican club. It had been planned to have all those who bought tickets to the banquet given special seats at the tabernacle, at which Senator Johnson would present his arguments argu-ments against the league of nations. The committee had arranged to reserve 600 seats for tuts purpose, but since the banquet has been canceled there will now be no seats reserved and the general gen-eral public will be admitted to all parts of the building. According to word received yesterday by Mr. Welsh from Alexander ilcCabe. who is arranging Senator Johnson's itinerary, the senator said he would be glad to speak in Ogden. Senator Johnson John-son will go io Ogden from Spokane. It is expected the Ogden tabernacle will be secured for the meeting, which will be held in the afternoon. A meeting of the Women's Republican club was held yesterday at the Hotel Utah, and later officers met with the officials for the banquet, arid it was decided de-cided to cancel the banquet. It also was stated one other reason for the cancellation cancella-tion of the banquet was that it was thought Senator Johnson would bo too tired after his speech at Ogden to speak twice in Salt Lake. |
