Down in a. certain vc t ion of the south where killing negroes first and investigating their guilt afterwards has become something of a public, obsession, a nun or gained currency that ,large stores of arms and ammunition had been M'creVd in a negro college. At once that portion of the white community com-munity which was not frightened into speechlessness and inaction by this report re-port of a contemplated uprising and wholesale, massacre of law-abiding citizens, cit-izens, who'o only offense was to an-tieipnte an-tieipnte tho courts of justice in meting out punishment, collected a few arms of their own and went to investigate the negro college in question. I They found tho guns and thoy found the munitions. But before the whites had timo to execute a merited judgement judge-ment on the negro faculty and the couple of hundred colored students, whose possession of rifles and powder and shell plainly evidenced a frightful design against the peaceable whites, somebody made the discovery that the arms and munitions had been sent to the college by the federal government , for use in thie soldiers' training camp; established at this negro school." The j college in question furnished its full i quota, of tho blacks who helped to win i America's share in the battles in Eu- rope. o the faculty and students escaped l?ing mobbed, or worse.
