Show PHYSICAL CONDITIONS IMPROVE AT TAR BABY Recent physical defelopments at the Tar Baby mine, near the Cardiff mine in the south work of Big Cottonwood canyon, can-yon, indicate that the Cardiff limestone-quartzite limestone-quartzite is being approached, according to C. H. K. Oiscn, mine superintendent, who was in the city yesterday. For nearly near-ly eighty feet a soluble limestone formation forma-tion was passed through, Several days ago a hard altered limestone, which Mr. Olsen believes is the casing of the contact, con-tact, was encountered. Samples of this lime show considerable considera-ble mineralization, which consists mostly of iron pyrites. Spar is beginning to show in the face of the tunnel and stringers of sulphides are often cut. Since Mr. Olsen has taken charge of operations at tlie mine the direction of the tunnel has been turned to the east. Considerable improvement has been noted in the formation. The country is not so badly broken up, the angle of the bedding planes conform more nearly to those in the Cardiff, and all conditions Indicate that the quartzite-limestone contact is being approached, according to Mr. Olsen. |
