Show ORLANDO A. SOMERS of I Indiana, national Grand1 Army commander, who comes j here today. 1 BIO Mi CHIEF COME TODAY Commander Somers and Party to Make Two Days' Visit. Commander in Chief of the Grand Army of the Eepublie Orlando A. Somers of Kokomo, lnd., and members of his staff and the national presidents of the Women's Belief corps and Ladies of tho G. A. R. will arrive in Salt Lake this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock en route to the national encampment, which will be held in Portland next week. The party will be guests of the Department of Utah, G. A. B., during the two days' stay here. Saturday the state encampment of Utah will meet in annual session when officers for the ensuing year will be elected and will be installed by the commander in chief. The reception committee appointed by the department commander will meet the distinguished guests at the Bio Grande station this afternoon and escort es-cort them to the capitol, where the building will be inspected. After this they will be taken to Fort Douglas, where, at 4 o 'clock, ttey will witness a dress parade by the Twentieth infantry. in-fantry. Supper will be served at the Hotel Utah. This evening at 8 o'clock there will be a public reception at the Hotel Utah on the mezzanine floor and formal welcome wel-come will be extended by Department Commander Corser and responses by the visiting officials. A special invitation invita-tion is extended all Hoosiers in Salt Lake to attend. In addition to the formal addresses a musical programme has been arranged. The "Song of Freedom" will be sung by the Mrs. Lizzie Thomas Edwards chorus of fifty voices and other patriotic patri-otic songs will bo sung by Mrs. Emma Ramsey Morris. There will be a folk dance given by Miss Nellie Clark, representing rep-resenting the rescue of a Belgian child by the United States. A special organ recital has been tendered ten-dered the visiting officials at the tabernacle taber-nacle Saturday noon, Professor John J. McClellan at the organ. A banquet will be served at Odd Fellows hall at 1 o'clock Saturday to the grand officers and members of the Utah department. Members of tho reception committee are requested to be at the Hotel Utah promptly at 1:30 today, where automobiles automo-biles furnished by the recruiting service of the army under the direction of Lieutenant Hall will be in readiness to transport them to the Bio Grande station. y |
