Show NEBEKER OPENS CASE AGAINST THE I. W. W. CHICApO, May 2. The government began presentation of testimony in the trial of 112 leaders of the I. W. W. late today, after Frank K. Nebeker, special prosecutor, had said it would be shown the organization entered a widespread conspiracy to upset America's war plans. Pointing to the decision of the United States supreme court in the case of papers pa-pers seized by the government from the files of Henry Veeder, counsel for Swift & Co., Attorney Vanderveer moved that all papers seized in the raids on I. W. W. headquartors be Immediately returned. Judge Landis overruled the motion, and later overruled a motion that a letter seized from the files of William D. Haywood, Hay-wood, general secretary-treasurer, which the government offered as an exhibit, be returned. |
