Word was received at headquarters in the Commercial club yesterday from W. H. Mace, chairman of the Washington county committee; J. W. Hansen of San Juan and W. D. Sufton of Summit county coun-ty that their respective organizations were ' rapidly forming and indications pointed I to a prompt raising of their allotments. In Salt Lake, lists of Liberty loan subscribers sub-scribers are being made out for the purpose pur-pose of sending to each one a pledge card for the united war work fund. These I cards ask a donation of 4 per cent of acJPecipient's fourth Liberty loan sub-Tiption. sub-Tiption. and provide either for full pay- lament down or payment on an instalment plan. The committee urges citizens to prepare themselves for receiving and returning re-turning the pards at the earliest possible moment. Gleason, vicar general gen-eral of Catholic chaplains of the Pacific insular possessions, in discussing the labors la-bors of the welfare workers, mentions the fact that the men In service did not want for amusement or lack of comfort while the camps were restricted from visitors. Several of the chaplains were given permission per-mission to leave the grounds, but in all Instances they remained. "My work naturally brings me in close touch with the secretaries of the Knights of Columbus," said Father Gleason, "and I can vouch for the fact that the work accomplished during the quarantine was wonderful. The Knights of Columbus chaplains devoted themselves assiduously to bringing relief to the many Isolates huts, and. with their Fords, supplied sta-h sta-h tionery and received and posted letters from the men, and, in fact, have done everything in their power to bring comfort com-fort to the men. In addition to these things, we saw that the men viewed moving pictures projected from a screen erected in the open air." |
