Show CONGRESS RECESS PLANS BLOCKED AVASHINGTOX. Oct. 30. Plans for an adjournment of congress until after election elec-tion appeared tonight to have been blocked by partisan conflict in the senate. Less than a quorum of the senate is in WnMunslon tonight and Republican leaders lead-ers said they would exercise their power to prevent the proposed recess in order that the senate may discuss any developments devel-opments in the peace negotiations. Democratic leaders were understood to be prepared to forestall another outbreak of partisan debate by making a point of no quorum. It was conceded by Republican Republi-can members that the Democratic plans could he carried out, thus forcing an adjournment ad-journment of the' senate from dav to day Introduction of resolutions bearing on proposals of the central powers is expected ex-pected tomorrow, but in view of the power possessed by either party to force J an adjournment, no discussion of the resolutions res-olutions is expected. Because of the situation in the senate, it was considered doubtful whether house lenders would attempt passage tomorrow to-morrow of an election recess resolution, causing a continuation of the existing three-day recess schedule. |
