Show CHRISTIANITY MUST GIVE HELP IN WAR Issues Clear and Passive Acceptance Not Our Part, the Rev. John Malick Says, Christianity should not be content with a passive acceptance of the evils loosed upon the world by German autocracy, but should give active aid in making humanity human-ity free, the Rev. John Malick, pastor of t he First Unitarian church, stated in a. lecture last night, "The Worker and the War," in the People's forum in the Mcintosh Mc-intosh building. The burden of civilization civili-zation today is being borne by the soldiers sol-diers in the battle trenches, lie said. Two groups, the class x-epresented by Emma Goldman, who would abolish all machinery for democracy, and those who .assert democracy haa failed, the Industrial Indus-trial Workeis of the World, obviously deserve de-serve no recognition by thinking men, the speaker stated. Another group, however, how-ever, members of which are sincerely endeavoring en-deavoring to discover a better method of democratic government, are due consideration con-sideration and aid. Five universally accepted, though not always formally covenanted, rules, the status of contract before the war, were set at naught without compunction or hesitation by Germany, Mr. Malick stated. One of these was the generally understood under-stood and approved practice of Europe of not disturbing any European boundary without first consulting the nations. International In-ternational law guaranteeing the freedom of the seas to neutrals and nonco inhalants inha-lants was broken. Germany also reverted revert-ed to savagery In treatment of civilians, the sick and the helpless in territory she overran. European nations had co-operated in barring the Mohammedan, but Germany Ger-many made Turkey an ally. The generally gener-ally accepted golden rule diplohiacy was ignored by the Hun. The situation is serious and issues are so clearly defined that there can be no neutral ground ; a man must be on one side or the other, Mr. Malick asserted. |
