In the presence pres-ence of a gathering representative of official of-ficial Washington, Dr. Milonko Vesnitch, head of the Serbian war mission to the United States, laid a wreath upon the tomb of Washington at Mount Vernon today, to-day, with a tribute to the patriarch of liberty from "a small and hardly known nation." Secretary Lansi ng. who introduced Dr. Vesuitth, said the record of Serbia challenged chal-lenged i lie admiral ion of Christendom, and that the cause of the present war is the cause for which Washington fought. "With God's belli we will triumph evcli as he triumphed.' said the secretary. ".As America was made freu from tyranny and injustice, so shall the world be made free from the sinister forces which threaten the freedom and prosperity of mankind." Dr. Vesnitch spoke of his people's love of liberty. "This, alas," he s;;id, "has brought, us misfortune. The autocrats and the despots surround iug us, ihe Teutons and the Turks, have rushed upon us and have crucified Serbia, nay, more, our whole race, the Jugo-Slavs. We have believed be-lieved in the moral and in the political gospel which Washington preached and which he confirmed by his life. We shall rise again. The argonauts whom Ceneral Pershing commands in Europe will complete com-plete the work of our liberty. "Your beloved land stands at the zenith or its grandeur and through no fault of your own, you have aroused the' envy of selfish, ambitious and l'russianir.ed Germany. Ger-many. You are of the stature to face the enemy, the more so, as in this gigantic struggle you have with you the frank and the honest among the nations. ".Jerusalem and ilnunt Vernon greet each other today!
