POPE APPRECIATES CHRISTMAS FEELING Urges Return to Christ to Once More Enjoy Benefits of World Civilization. ROM E, Saturday, Jan. In thanking the Roman aristocracy today for their Christmas and New Year's greetings, "J 'ope Benedict expressed his appreciation tliat the nobility had indorsed "our words with which we recently invited the peoples peo-ples of the earth to return to God with Vthe view of hastening the end of the w fright ful m it; fortune which has afflicted the world for more than three years." We must return to Christ, His Holiness r.dded. "in order once more to enjoy the benetiu of civilization." The pontiff sa id the road whereby to let urn to Christ, was that of justice and Jnvc, lie expressed satisfaction tha t the nobility had joined with the Holy See in condemning the recent air raids, which wore against t he rights of man. Tne pope raised his voice against the form of warfare which is used against undefended cities without bringing military results and which causes victims among non-combatants non-combatants besides damaging churches and art treasures, thus increasing national na-tional hatreds.
