Show Americans Impressed. f-uggestion? made to officials here tonight to-night that the Lloyd Genrge speech opened the path to peace were frowned upon. The features of the speech which apparently have most deeply impressed American officials are the?-: 1 The greater clarity with which Lloyd George expresses President's Wilson's d :f tine: ion between the German people and the German government. 2 Skill with which he has depicted the details of the entente aims as based on justice rather than Interest. Officials of the administration have always al-ways been chary of, defining just what President Wilson meant in his reply to Pope Benedict by his refusal to treat with "the present masters of the German Ger-man people." It has never been officially either denied or affirmed that the United States would demand a- radical-change in the German constitution. It -has been stated that the president did not mean that the kaiser must go. But no further explanation has ever been vouchsafed. |
