Legislation asked by President AYilson In connection with government operation of t he nation's railroads heads the programme of congress con-gress this week. Interstate commerce committees of the senate and house meet tomorrow to he-gln he-gln consideration of the administration railroad bill. The senate committee tomorrow to-morrow will hear prominent railroad executives ex-ecutives and the house committee will decide de-cide whether hearings will be held. ! The principal business before the sen- oU' this week is disposal tomorrow of the I Walsh-Pittman coal, and oil land leasing bill, designed to open up vast western natural resources. The senate Democratic steering committee com-mittee will meet tomorrow to fill the vacant va-cant chairmanship of the interstate commerce com-merce committee. The leaders generally j expect the selection of Senator Smith of j South Carolina over Senator Pomerene of Ohio. j Will Settle Suffrage. Woman suffrage is to be settled in the house next Thursday, when a vote on the resolution for submission of the Susan B.. Anthony amendment to the constitution constitu-tion is scheduled. The result is in doubt, with a very close vote expected. Hear- 1 Ings on the resolution will be closed to- j morrow by the new house suffrage com- , mittee. On Tuesday the 'senate privileges and elections committee will resume consideration con-sideration of Senator La Foliette's alleged al-leged disloyal St. Paul .speech and make plans to begin hearings, probably with former Secretary Bryan as the first wit- , ness. Investigation of the delay In constructing construct-ing merchant ships will be resumed Tuesday Tues-day by the senate commerce committee.
