D. S. U., which schools, from all indications, intend to plav independent ball. The board voted to allow t he three schools until next Friday niht to consider con-sider the proposition of re-enteriug the organization. Should they decide not to return to the fold members of the association will not be allowed to engage en-gage in contests with the three inde pendent schools. The L. I). S. V.. Granite and Joradn schools left the association last sprint; when they, together with the East hiuh and West li ih sehols wh ieii com-posed com-posed section 3 of the Salt Lake division di-vision withdrew from the orpnniza-I orpnniza-I tion. The reason given at that time ; was that winning contests was regarded j i of more importance than general phvsi-cal phvsi-cal development. The action of these schools in withdrawing with-drawing was t lie i m mediate result of tbo contest between the West high and Granite, in which several Granitians were injured, and friends of Granite objected strenuouslv to anv further competition against the West hich school. As a result, during the football season sea-son of 101 ii the Kast high and West high did not play Graniie, although ali the other football elevens met the Farmers. Have TiU Friday. Secretary-treasurer C. Oren Wilson was authorized to write letters to L. D. S. U., Granite and Jordan, informing them of the deeiMon of the board, and if tiie teams expect to re-enter they are asked to announce the decision before be-fore Friday night. IT LIE DIVISION IS FULL OF BEH1S, (Continued From Pracedlng Page.) teams playing with the three independents indepen-dents is expected to cut into the plans of numerous teams in this locality, as several contests had been arranged. Should teams in the league play the ! outsiders they will bo automatically dropped and will be barred from further participation against association teams until reinstated, according to the new order. The rule against league teams playing play-ing The independents is to prevent an outsider from claiming the state basket bas-ket ball title bv beating several of the best quintettes. Jt has come to the board's attention that some trams not in state tournaments have laid claim to the championship, even though they did not attend the state meet. Another important change that is expected ex-pected to develop stability was the adoption of a motion not to make any more changes until the next annual meeting in "the rules or contests. This j will prevent an event being thrown out at the last minute and in that maimer catch ambitious athletes unprepared. The state basketball tournament was placed in charge of the president and secretary-treasurer and it was voted 1 that the" president receive some com pen-! sation for work during the tourney, j The tournament will be held March 9,! 10 and 11 and the place of meet will be open for bids. The officers will also, select the officials and decide upon j other matters pertaining to the tourney.; Four teams will be entered and the1 same plan of elimination as governed1 last year was decided upon for this season. The state track meet will be handled rs usual bv the University of Utah. Efforts Ef-forts will'be made to completo all arrangements ar-rangements as soon as possible, so that the coaches may know the regulations in time to prepare for the meet. There was some talk of adding the javelin throw to the field events. Only a few present knew much about the long stick burling, but there is a possibility possi-bility of adding the event. Changes in Divisions. In regard to change in the divisions, the first considered was the Kortheru. Long trips from Davis county to north : Cache were regarded too expensive and ; the division was given a general shak- j ing up. There aro now three sections, j Davis county, Weber academy, Ogden and Morgan constitute one section. Xorth Cache, South Cache, B. Y. C. and Boxehler high school form a sec-I sec-I ond section, with Coalville, Kamas and Park City in the third. The Salt Lake division brought on a long discussion. With the withdrawal of L. D. S. U., Granite and Jordan, it was thought best to add T6oele, Grants-ville, Grants-ville, Bingham and Murray to the East and West high schools to form one division, di-vision, where there had been two. The Salt Lake schools will be under heavier expense under this arrangement, but the revision appeared to be the only solution to the question. So as not to miss school work, the Salt Lake schools have consented to play Tooele one ni2ht and Grantsville the following. follow-ing. This will cut expenses to a large degree. Coach J. W. West of Tooele declared he would attempt to arrange his games in Salt Lake on Wednesday and Fri- I day, so as to give his men a rest between be-tween contests. Ke said that this was possible because train service is such as to permit the players to travel without with-out missing any school work. It was agreed that should the L, D. S. U., Granite and Jordan decide to come back into the league one section would be composed of Murray, Granite. Jordan and Bingham, while the other would have Tooele, Grantsville, East high, West high and the L. D. S. U. Should but one of the schools re-enter, then that school would probably be added add-ed to the present division. This matter j 1 lies in the hands of the president, sec re-! tary-treasurer and two Salt Lake divi- j sion members on the board of control, i Against Combining. The problem of whether to permit Proctor academy and Provo high school combining to enter one team was voted down, inasmuch as it was thought best to have a limit, and, although the request re-quest appeared reasonable, it was thought an affirmative decision would lead "to complications. Sam Baird, Alpine division member on the board, said that Provo and Proctor Proc-tor academy would not be in the division divi-sion this year, so that the Alpine division divi-sion would consist of Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant Grove and Heber. The !Nebo division was left unchanged, un-changed, although Price wanter a regular regu-lar league schedule with Nebo teams. Price will be permitted to play the second sec-ond best team in that division and, if successful, will contest with the division divi-sion titleholders. To the Sevier section of the Sanpete-Sevier Sanpete-Sevier division, which now has Richfield, Rich-field, Salina and Monroe, Panguitch was added, being switched from the Southern South-ern division to the Sevier because of lesser expense and distance. With the exception of the Panguitch case, no changes were made in the Southern division. Yesterday Ts session was the last meeting meet-ing of the present board of control. The next meeting of the board will find all new members, with the exception of Tberon Reunion of Moroni, Sanpete-Sevier Sanpete-Sevier division. The others who attended at-tended yesterday were coaches. The new members will be chosen in the near future. J. W. Peters of the Boxelder high school will represent the Northern divisiou. In the future there will be but six members, although during the past year there have been eight. The divisions, with the exception of the Southern, will arrange their schedules sched-ules in the near future. The Walt Lake division meets next Saturday. The Southern division has already fixed its dates. |
