Show WIFE-BEATER GIVEN SENTENCE IN JAIL Yesterday when giving Robert Walsh a sentence of six months' imprisonment in the county jail for wife-beating. Brigham Clegg, justice of the peace, expressed regret re-gret that the state law would hot permit a whipping-post sentence. The defendant was excoriated by fhe court, told that a jaii sentence was an over-mild punishment for the offrnse of which he was found guilty, and was Informed In-formed that the court was sorry it could not inflict punishment for perjury. Mrs. Elizabeth Walsh, the wife, was In court with a face swollen and discolored from blows alleged to have been administered adminis-tered by her husband's fists. Walsh returned to his home in Sandy, according to the testimony of his wife, early Thursday morning intoxicated and gave her a severe beating. |
