It took ten innings today to dueide the game between Los Angeles and Portland, nnd, although the northern team used four pitchers, about all the talent it had, they could not avert the defeat, 5 to 4, that was administered to them. The victory made it five in a row for Pop Dillon '8 triumphant organization. organiza-tion. The first run for Los Angeles came in the third inning, when Boles singled to right. Butler sacrificed, Coveleskie to Derrick, and Williams singled to center, sending Bole6 to third. Maggert sent a sacrifice fly to Carlisle, scoring Boles and allowing "Williams to take second. Beumiller went out, stumpf to Derrick. Portland followed with' another run in their half of the fourth. Xeither side did any scoring until the eighth, when Portland scored three. Derrick singled to left center and Coveleskie went out. .bunting a foul on the third strike. Carlisle singled to right center, cen-ter, sending Derrick to third, and Hammond Ham-mond hit to Beumiller, who threw to Boles, catching Derrick at the plate. Carlisle took second on the play. Speaa singled to left, 'scoring Carlisle, and Bates singled to left, scoring Hammond. Ham-mond. Speaa scored and Bates took second on Boles 's error. Stumpf went out, Beumiller to Koerner. There was wild excitement among the home crowd when Los Angeles tied up the score in their half. The count ran 4-4 until the tenth, when, with Evans pitching for Portland, Mag-gert Mag-gert got to first on Stumpf 's error, Beumiller sacrificed and Wolter struck out.
