Show JOII EVERS TO .quit for sra . . ( By International News Service. CHICAGO, Aug. 7. Johnny Evers is going to quit baseball at least for the . ; remainder of the season. He will prob- - i ably formally notify Manager Staflinga j in St. Louis tomorrow. Failing health, is the principal reason, although there are contributory- causes. The famous little second baseman has no complaint to offer against the treat- :i menfe accorded him by Manager Stall-ings Stall-ings or any one else connected with the Boston club. ' While Evers gives ill health as his principal reason for quitting the game, ; he has let it be known that he is not i altogether satisfied with existing con- -ditions in the old league. He is par- ; ticularly bitter against Magnates Charles Ebetts of the Brooklyn club and Barney Breyfuss of the Pittsburg ; Pirates. The great little second sacker feels - he is so fixed financially that he can - ! retire and enjoy life, free from the j worries of the diamond. Hiss loss to ' the Braves, right in the midst of a hot j race for the pennant can hardly be - ; overestimated. 1 |
