Show I00HMEST ASSAY " OmCEJjDnUH ORES Director of Mint Orders Local Branch to Install Necessary Equipment- The local government assay office will in tlie future conduct a custom business and will assay ores for their gold, silver, lead and copper content. The director of the mint has authorized Charles Gammon, assayer in charge of I the government assay office in Salt Lake, to purchase and install equipment equip-ment for ore assaying. Although the government assay offices located at Boie, Idaho, Helena, Mont., Carson City, Nev., and, Leadwoad, N. D., have made this class of determinations for a number of years, this is the first time that the ialt Lake office has been encouraged en-couraged to lend its aid to the prospector. pros-pector. As it is not the intention of the government gov-ernment to compete with the custom assayers in charges for this class of work, a charge of $3.U0 will be made for each sample submitted. After the equipment has been installed the local government office will make determinations determina-tions for only gold, silver, lead or copper. cop-per. The office will continue to purchase gold bullion as usual and to determine bullion assays for 'jewelers or other individuals in-dividuals ou silver plate or bars, the contents of which, are high in silver. The office, however, does not purchase what is strictly a silver bullion, a certain cer-tain percentage of gold being required in the bullion. Due to the fact tljat the local government gov-ernment assay office has been ordered to provide equipment for the assaying of ore brought in by prospectors, in addition ad-dition to its regular business of purchasing purchas-ing gold bullion it would seem to be the policy of the treasury officials to continue con-tinue the office indefinitely and to make it more useful to the mining public. |
