Show WILL TRY TO GROW CORK OAK IN AMERICA WASHINGTON. Jan. 21. Cork oak. which grows to a large extent In Spain, is to be tried ln the national forests of tills country. Two thousand ono-year seedlings now In the nursery at Chlco, CaL, will be used for experimental planting by the forest servlco. Some will bo placed In the Santa Barbara national forests and othors will bo planted in the Monterey national forest ln southern California. Seedlings also will be made the subject of experimentation at the forest school at Point Loma, Cnl. In addition to planting seedlings, cork oak acorns will bo obtained from Catalonia, Cata-lonia, Spain, for experimental purposes. Some cork oaks have boon raised In California Cali-fornia and tho forest servlco thinks thoy cun bo raised ln that stato as well as In Florida. |
