Show WESTERNERS HOLD A CONFERENCE WITH TAFT WASHINGTON, Jan. 24. A large delegation dele-gation of Montana people, headed by Senator Sen-ator carter and Representative Pray, and accompanied by Louis W. Hill, president of the Great Northern railroad, talked to the president today about tho serious delay in carrying out the Milk river and St. Mary's irrigation projects In that stale. They nlso complained about tho great quantities of unsurvcyed public lands and the extensive amount of lands Included in the forest reserve. They said that American farmers were fnst going to western Canada and taking up lands there, to the detriment of the United States, because of Inability to get surveyed sur-veyed lands. The apcclllc complaint to tho president was that some years ago a large number num-ber of farmers surrendered to tho government gov-ernment tholr private water rights In tho belief thnt the government would quickly complete the Milk river project and they would again have water for their land. Little or nothing has been done, however. Mr. Taft promised to take the matter up. |
