Show JUAB COUNTY WINS - Prevails Upon Equalization Board Not to Increase Valuations. Special to The Tribune. NEPIII, Aug. 15. County Clerk Thomas Vlckcrs and County Commissioner Commission-er John S. NIelson scored a distinct victory vic-tory last Saturday in their meeting with the state board of equalization regarding the recent 15 per cent raise In the valuation val-uation of all cattle In Juab county. Immediately Im-mediately after the proposed ralso, County Clerk Vlckcrs got busy and soon ascertained the stato would only receive about $114.37 and the county about $100 as a result of the raise. Mr. Vickers pointed out that It would take about three weeks to change and retotal the rolls. Thej-e are nbout HOdO head of cattle assessed In the conntv and It requires from 1000 to 1200 notices to owners. The committee pointed out to the board that the horses in this county are assessed higher than In any other county in the state, averaging about $C7.uO, while In many counties the average is only $50. The averago assessment on cattle In this county is ?1G.G6 and the averago "In otner counties was $17.50. It was admitted by the state board that real estate was a little higher in this county than In others. The committee pointed out thnt the raise on cattle hit the very persons whose real estate and horses wero assessed high and asked that the proposed raise on caltlo be taken off. The board considered con-sidered that the arguments advanced were good and granted the request of tho committee. |
