Under u contract signed last week William Anderson, a well-known hotel man of Salmon, Idaho, became the proprietor pro-prietor of the new fireproof hotel .building .build-ing at the comer of Iain and Fourth South streets. It will be known as tho New Grand hotel and will be reudj' for oceupanev about October 1. Carson & Holt is tho name of a new real estate firm which recently opened offices on the fourth floor of the Judge building. The firm is made up of Kit Carson and D. F. Holt, a successful young real estate man from Portland, Ore. Mr. Holt will look after tho real estate end of tho business, while Colonel Carson will devote most of his time to looking after his mining inLorests, in which lino he has had an extensive experience. ex-perience. This firm has purchased the Johnson tract of ton acres on South State street and will proceed at once with the erection of a number of modern mod-ern bungalows on tho property. The firm makes a specialty of the designing design-ing and building of bungalows after the California style. Building Inspector A. B. Hirth is beginning be-ginning to loso his confidonco, also his temper. The reason is that building permits are showing a fearful slump. The building permits for last August amounted to something like $1,750,000. The week just ended started olT so badly in permits that thero is little or no hope that this month will get. within hailing distance of last. August. For the week .-just ended, which was the First week of the current month, only fourteen permits were issued and these all woro" small ones. The total xpendi-tare xpendi-tare they call for is only $15,000. Tho smallness of the permits is accounted for in that thoy mostly are for repair jobs.
