C -Two officers of-ficers and five men were dangerously wounded today by an explosion of petrol on the navy submarine A-l. So great was tho force of the explosion that the coxswain was blown completely out of the conning tower and fell Into the sea. Tho A-l seoms ill fated, being tho same Doat which was stink In collision off Portsmouth in 1901, early in its career, ca-reer, all aboard being drowned. The A-l. a single screw, submersible boat of the modified Holland type, is 100 feet in length nnd VI feet S inchoa beam. Sho has a displacement of lSi tons. She was sunk ofC Nob lightship on March IS. 1904. and her crew of eloven men drowned. Later she was raised. |
