President Taft will lie entertained by Newport In .September. lie will go to tho seat of high society for a brief visit with Senator and Mrs. Wet more. Jle will be accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Taft and Miss Ilolon Taft. A grout many social affairs are being planned in President Taft's honor by the dwellers of tho fashion colony. However. How-ever. It will not all be social functions for the executive. Ills programme while In Newport, Includes the laying of a Y. M. C. A. corner-stone, a horso show and a reviewing of an army and navy parade. Sevenil big dances nnd dinners will be given for President Taft. He Is one or the few presidents who have delighted In society sufficiently to visit Newport. Engagement of Interost. An important engugemont of Interest In Washington Is that of Miss Emily Gravatt. only daughter of Rev. John J. Gravatt, D. D., rector of Holy Trln-llv Trln-llv Protestant Episcopal church, Richmond, Rich-mond, to Rev. Robert A. Goodwl. Jr.. son of Rev. Robert A. Goodwin. In charge o. old St. John's church In that city. Miss Gravatt Is a niece of Rt. Rev. John G. Gnivntt, Jr., student secretary of (he board of missions. Mr. Goodwin. was ordained deacon In Juno at the Theological seminary, near Alexandria, Is a nephew of Rev. Edwin I,. Goodwin of Fairfax, historiographer of the diocese ol Virginia. One Diplomat Left. Merriam, wife of the former governor of Minnesota, hns gone to Atlantic City, whore sbo Is visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Paymaster Paymas-ter and Mru. John R. Morrlam. From Atlantic City Mrs. Merrhtm will go to Now London, Conn., to visit her son-ln-l.'iw and daughter, Mr. and Mrs, John Tyler Wheelwright. Loudon from their homo In Holland, and of tho Belgian Bel-gian minister. Count do Bulssorot, who havo been on a long trip west, will go lo Bar Harbor. The Belgian minister will sail to Join his family In their Belgian Bel-gian home. Thujnow minister from Ecuador, Ecua-dor, Sonor Don Rafael Arlzaga. who has teen in Washington but a fortnight, has been visiting friends In Philadelphia. He has a charming wife, who will Join him hen; later on. It Is a matter of great satisfaction to tho many friends of the former minister from Ecuador and his Interesting In-teresting and popular family, tho Carbos, that they will continue to make Washington Wash-ington their home for some time yet. They aro now off for a summer outing, but will return here iu the autumn, Personal Mention. Mrs. George H. Shelton. wife of Major Sheiton, V. S. A., has left this city for an extended trip through tho worst, and will bo the guest of relatives In Kansas City, Mo. Shu will also visit Battle Creek. Midi. Commodore and Mrs. Arthur Curtis James will entertain Rear Admiral Sehroedor, U. S. NT., commander-ln-ohlef or the United States Atlantic fleet, on board the llagship Aloha of the New York Yacht club, at dinner at Newport on Friday ovenlng. August Ifl. A number of functions havo been planned for tho visit of the Hoot, which is expected to arrive nt Newport about August lfi. Mrs. E. A. Haines has taken a cottage at Ocean Grove. N. J., for the season. She will have as her guests her children. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Sanford. and iholr four children of Kno.vvlllc. Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. N. S. Isham and son of this city and Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Haines of York Pa. This will be the tlrst reunion of the family since the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Haines. Eell-Kissol Wedding. The wedding of Miss Mary G. Bell, daughter of Colonol and Mrs- Samuel Bell of Philadelphia, to Rudolph H. Kissel Kis-sel of this city and Morrlslown will inko pluco in September, It is announced. Mr. Kissel has been a widower two yours. His wife was Miss Marollne Morgan, daughter of Mrs. David Pierce Morgan of New York and Washington, and a sister of Mrs. Carter, wife of John Rldgley Carter, formerly Ilrst secretary of the United States embassy In London and now minister of Roumunla. whose daughter daugh-ter was recently married in London to Viscount Acheson. Mr. Kissel, who Is a member of several promlent clubs In New York and Morrlslown. is In tho banking business in Wall street. Ho Is tho father of six children, ono of whom Is Mrs. James E.
