Show TIIE AUDITOR'S REPORT. Tho Tribune prints this morning the detailed report of tho City Auditor, tho same being delayed in its fullness boy oiul tho time set by law because of the work of the special auditors which required the use by them of the books, to the delay of the regular auditor's audi-tor's force. lho statement is given in great detail, de-tail, with much elaboration, and in a series of tables that show conclusively conclusive-ly that the revenuo surplus of the year amounted to upward of $200,000. This shows the futility and viciousncss of the talk so much indulged in by the opposition that the American party-must party-must have tho bond 11101103- to pa current cur-rent expenses. That oulcv.y, however, is thoroughly squelched also b- the resolution adopted in tho Council on Mouda.y evening ppecificallj' pledging tho utilization of tho bond mone to the items and purposes definitely set forth. This Auditor's statement is a most interesting one for the tnxpuycrs. showing show-ing the hcay trausactious of the city for the j-car in excellent form, omitting omit-ting no detail. Tho Dcscret News has been clamoring vociferously and repeatedly repeat-edly for this statement. A preliminary statomcut of totals was made some time ago, but that did not satisf3 tho News. And although the offer was made repeatedly that on any point that it might desiro information that information infor-mation would be sumilic.d, it failed to avail itself of this proffer. Now, however, how-ever, the wholo matter is presented in itemized form and in perfect shape, oasy of comprehension to tho ultimate figure. It is to be hoped that the News will bo honest enough to tako notice of the fact, and to cease its idle and malicious clamor upon this point. The Tribune has pointed out all along that there is nothing secret about this, and has offered to join with tho News-in News-in procuring ai- information that might bo desired b3 an.y taxpayer as to the cit3's condition, and as to tho condition of all tho funds. Thero is not the least desire, or effort, to cover up anything. But on tho contrnn-, tho dosire is that the public shall know all about" tho public' business and ' have full information as to cvcr3' dollar received re-ceived and what is dono with it. The Auditor's statement, full, precise," and plain as it is, should shut the' mouths of all critics from henceforth. |
